SAFE HARBOR ENERGY will be located in the federal waters of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), allowing LNG Carriers to use the adjacent inbound Hudson Canyon to Ambrose and the outbound Ambrose to Nantucket Traffic Lanes. This is approximately 13.5 miles south of the city of Long Beach, New York (on Long Island) and 23 miles from the entrance to NY Harbor.

Locating the terminal adjacent to designated shipping fairways facilitates the approach and departure of LNG tankers and will not interfere with, and is in keeping with, the area's existing international shipping traffic.

The project location, shown above, is in a water depth of approximately 60 to 70 feet and will accommodate the largest international LNG tankers.

  • Remote site: 13.5 miles from nearest population centers
  • Ice-free, deep water, protected harbor
  • Accommodates largest tankers
  • 360 degree navigation access.
  • Facilitates LNG tanker access and off-loading
  • Shortest time: sea to berth
  • No bridge or navigation channel restrictions
  • LNG tankers will use established, international shipping lanes
and remain far from population centers

“What is really clear
is that there is no reason
to site these facilities
[LNG terminals] in any
densely populated areas”
